Pre-Requisite: Try Sewing or recent sewing experience with Sewcial
Please mark your calendar with the class date and time before registering, as this page may be difficult to access later. After registration, you’ll see a “Stop” page with your class waiver—please review it before closing your browser.
We will show you why you can make so much more!
If you’ve ever wanted to try quilting — but thought it looked a little too complicated — this is your moment.
You do not need quilting experience. You barely need sewing experience.
If you can sew one very simple straight line, you can do this.
We’ll sew it, slice it, turn it and start rearranging the pieces. Suddenly, two small squares become an entire design playground. Flip one. Rotate another. Move that piece over there. Now change it again.
It’s part Rubik’s Cube, part tile game, part kaleidoscope, part textile sorcery—and wildly satisfying.
During this fast-moving Try Quilting experience, you’ll use the same simple quilting method to create four completely different designs. Every arrangement changes the pattern, and every little turn creates another possibility. It's so fun, and nobody will be left behind.
The surprisingly simple building block behind countless quilt designs
How to create it using one beginner-friendly straight stitch
How to slice, press, turn and place your pieces
Four different layouts made from the same basic block
How color and fabric placement completely transform a design
How to continue experimenting with the method after class
You’ll begin with one simple construction method and discover four ways to rearrange the finished pieces.
Same stitch. Same shapes. Completely different results. Once you get the hang of it, you will realize that you can create it more than 4 ways. We are just here to get you started.
This is quilting’s version of a puzzle game—except every answer is correct, and the prize is fabric.
Quilting is the process—not the end game.
Once you understand this method, you can transform it into an almost unlimited number of projects, sizes and styles.
Think:
Upcycled sweatshirts
Coffee cozies
Hot pads
Bags
Wall tapestries
Pillows
Mug rugs
Garment panels
Fabric artwork
Projects we haven’t even thought of yet
You may even leave ready to tile your own floor using the same design method.
Ask me how I know.
Curious beginners, sewing dabblers, puzzle people, color lovers and anyone who has looked at a quilt and assumed it must be far too complicated.
If you can sew a straight line, you are ready. No previous quilting experience is required.
Color everywhere. Pieces moving around the table. Everyone calling out, “Look what happens when I turn it this way!”
This is quilting without the quiet, serious energy. Quiet energy is not us. We’re experimenting, rearranging and watching one tiny sewing move multiply into four mind-blowing designs.
No giant quilt commitment. No complicated piecing. No math! Just one stitch, a few clever turns and a completely new way to look at quilting.
Come make a little textile magic.
