Part-Time Studio Assistants + Class Instructors | Sacramento, CA
Sewcial® is growing our team, and we're looking for a few more personalities to add to the mix.
We care a whole lot more about who you are in a room full of people than how impressive your sewing résumé looks.
Sewcial is a high-energy, beginner-focused sewing and creative studio where adults and kids come to try something new, build confidence, laugh a lot, and leave feeling like they can do hard things.
Sewcial is proudly a family-focused, community-facing business. We value a wholesome, welcoming environment and look for team members who help protect it through kindness, good judgment, professionalism, and respect for the community we serve.
That takes people who notice the nervous kid hanging back. Who can encourage the adult convinced they're "terrible at this." Who can keep a group moving, solve a problem without panicking, laugh when something goes sideways, and make everyone feel like they're part of the fun.
That's who we're looking for.
We're hiring for studio assistant and instructor opportunities, with room to grow based on experience, skills, and training.
Already an experienced sewist? Fantastic.
Know the basics but still have plenty to learn? Also fantastic.
Crafty, great with people, exceptional with kids, and willing to learn? We still want to hear from you.
We can teach skills. We're much more interested in finding the right humans.
Think theater kid. Cheerleader who genuinely wanted everyone else to win. Favorite camp counselor. Best babysitter in the universe. Crafty friend who says, "Hang on. I think I can figure this out."
You're:
Exceptionally dependable
Energetic, encouraging, expressive, and comfortable being a little silly
GREAT with kids and equally comfortable with adults
A natural problem solver who can pivot when Plan A becomes Plan B
Comfortable taking the lead and equally willing to assist
Coachable and willing to learn our projects and teaching methods
The kind of person who notices what needs to be done and starts helping
Community-minded and committed to representing yourself, Sewcial, and the Sacramento community with kindness, professionalism, and unwavering respect for others—regardless of personal opinions, beliefs, or politics.
And perhaps most importantly: you genuinely like people.
Sewcial is a tight little community. We treat students like they're walking into a best friend's creative space—not filing into a classroom.
Our class calendar is built around staff availability, sometimes months in advance. Once you commit to a class, we put it on the calendar. People register. Families arrange schedules. Other staff members depend on you.
Our busiest teaching hours are evenings (typically 5:30pm-9:00pm) and weekend (morning and afternoons), and this is a very part-time position. It can work beautifully alongside school, another job, family, or other commitments—as long as the hours you commit to Sewcial are hours we can genuinely count on you.
There IS glitter.
There ARE disco balls.
There is also a broom.
Teaching is only part of what keeps Sewcial running. Depending on your shift, you might assist a student, prepare materials, ring up a sale in our Handcrafted Marketplace, restock merchandise, wipe down tables, clean windows, sweep floors, take out trash, reset the classroom, or help maintain our storefront.
Nobody here has a "that's not my job" job. We all pitch in.
Some shifts are heavily focused on teaching. Some are assisting. Some might involve selling a customer their first really good pair of fabric scissors and then vacuuming a mountain of thread off the floor.
That's Sewcial.
Positions: Part-Time Studio Assistant + Class Instructor
Employment: Part-time employee
Location: Sewcial® in Sacramento
Schedule: Primarily evenings and weekends; hours vary
Experience: Sewing experience helpful, but not required
Training: Provided
Because our team works with children, employment is contingent upon completion of Sewcial's required screening, safety, and training requirements.
Yes, send us your résumé. It can be beautifully polished or incredibly simple.
But what we really want is YOU.
Along with it, send us a short cover letter in your actual voice telling us:
Why Sewcial?
Spend a little time getting to know us first. Then tell us what you think Sewcial is, what caught your attention, why you think you'd fit here, and what you'd bring to the room.
We don't need corporate.
We don't need perfect.
We don't need a thesaurus.
And we definitely don't need a generic paragraph about "the timeless art of sewing."
If you're funny, be funny. If you're enthusiastic, let us feel it. If something about Sewcial surprised you, tell us.
We want to hear your personality before we ever meet you.
Please don't talk yourself out of applying because you aren't an expert.
We can teach sewing. We can teach projects. We can teach systems.
What is much harder to teach is how to make a nervous eight-year-old feel brave, help a frustrated adult laugh at a wonky seam, keep a room moving when something unexpected happens, and show up when people are counting on you.
If that sounds like you, we'd really like to meet you.
