One person’s “I never wear this” is another person’s “WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?”
Join us for a special afternoon of fabric hunting, closet swapping and discovering new possibilities for the clothing you already own.
Sewcial is opening its doors outside regular class hours for a free community event that is part fabric haul, part clothing swap, part garment-rescue mission and part excuse to finally come see what happens inside that bright little sewing studio.
Come ready to dig, discover and possibly leave with considerably more fabric than you intended.
We’re opening Sewcial’s collection of project-end fabric bolts: the smaller quantities remaining after years of classes, camps and workshops.
Every bolt contains at least half a yard and is sold in the exact quantity remaining. We will not be cutting fabric by requested yardage during the event.
Find it. Love it. Take the whole little bolt home.
Suggested projects will be displayed based on common yardage amounts, making it easier for new and experienced sewists to spot what they can create with each piece.
No Joann’s? No problem.
Bring up to 10 clean, wearable garments that are ready for a new closet. In exchange, you may take home up to the same number of pieces you contributed.
There is no fee to participate.
Adult and youth clothing
Jackets and outerwear
Dresses, tops, pants and skirts
Wearable accessories
Stained, damaged or excessively worn clothing
Undergarments or swimwear
Shoes
Household linens (unless they are quilts or embroidered table cloths that can be upcycled)
Items requiring significant repair before they can be worn
All contributions should be freshly washed and ready to wear. Remaining garments will be donated after the event, so please bring only pieces you are ready to release into the wild.
Garment check-in begins at 1:15 p.m. The swap opens at 1:30 p.m.
Early arrival is strongly encouraged. Bringing your garments before the official swap begins gives our team time to organize the racks and lets everyone begin with a full, fabulous selection.
Participants may still drop in later, but the earliest swappers will naturally have the largest selection.
Pop over to our patio neighbors, Sac City Brews to enjoy libations before coming back over. We have discounted bites and bev coupons for everyone!
Found something fabulous that almost fits? Have a garment at home that deserves another chance?
Stop by the Alterations Possibility Bar to explore what may be possible through hemming, taking in, letting out, patching, restyling or creative upcycling.
Our goal is to help guests recognize three different options:
Learn it: Build the skills to tackle common garment changes yourself.
Hire it: Discover when a project may be better handled by an alterations professional.
Remix it: Explore creative ways to turn an imperfect garment into something completely new.
This is an inspiration and demonstration area—not an on-site repair service, fitting appointment or replacement for Sewcial’s hands-on classes.
You do not need to know how to fix something before deciding it is worth saving. Sometimes you just need someone to point out the possibilities.
If the fabric haul or Alterations Possibility Bar gets your creative wheels turning, we’ll have upcoming classes available to explore and register for during the event.
Start here if you own a machine, inherited one or still feel mildly threatened by one. Learn how the sewing machine works before worrying about completing a project.
Use a sewing machine to complete a beginner-friendly project with all supplies provided. No machine ownership or previous sewing experience is required.
Learn the foundational skills behind common clothing fixes, repairs and simple fit changes. This is for sewists who want to stop staring at the mending pile and start understanding what to do with it.
Learn how to decode pattern envelopes, symbols, measurements, instructions and all the mysterious paper pieces involved in sewing from a pattern.
Create something useful, giftable or delightfully seasonal in one concentrated session. Upcoming projects include the Wine Bottle Sling, Bookish Beanbag, Zippered Fabric Cuff Bracelet and Bat Wing Coasters.
Not sure where to begin? Ask us. Sewcial specializes in helping true beginners find the right starting point without making sewing feel like an advanced-placement course.
Come early, check in your garments and visit our neighbors at Sac City Brews while we prepare the racks for their 1:30 p.m. debut.
Every event guest will receive one of our standing neighborhood coupons to use at Sac City Brews. Grab lunch, enjoy a beverage and return ready to shop, swap and rescue some perfectly good clothes from an unnecessary breakup.
Fabric hunting, closet swapping, alterations inspiration and food next door? Your Saturday plans have officially been handled.
Everyone who attends may enter our end-of-day drawing for one free Sewcial class valued at $60!
Pre-register to get a bonus raffle entry! In-person participation required.
Stop at the welcome table when you arrive, complete a raffle slip and drop it into the drawing box. No purchase is necessary, and each guest may enter once.
We’ll draw the winner at the end of the event and contact them using the information provided. You do not need to remain at the studio until the drawing—but with fabric, clothing and Sac City Brews next door, you may accidentally spend the whole afternoon with us anyway.
The prize applies to one eligible Sewcial class valued at $60 and excludes camps, private events, multi-session programs and premium workshops.
The event and clothing swap are completely free.
This is a drop-in community event.
Fabric will be available for purchase.
Fabric quantities are limited and completely one of a kind.
Project-end bolts are sold as bundled and will not be cut during the event.
Swap participants may take up to the same number of garments they contribute.
Please bring your own reusable shopping bag.
Remaining swap garments will be donated after the event.
No sewing experience is needed.
Sewcial’s usual policies apply.
Come shop the stash, swap your closet, discover what your clothing could become and finally peek inside Sewcial.
You may arrive with a bag of clothing. You may leave with fabric, a new outfit, a future class and absolutely no memory of how any of this happened.
