Welcome to the Pattern Lab

Where confident beginners and returning sewists bring their ideas — and patterns — to life!

In this small-group, project-driven series, participants will work side-by-side through the process of cutting, fitting, and sewing from commercial or digital patterns. Whether you’re tackling your first garment, revisiting a pattern you love, or exploring digital PDFs for the first time, this lab is designed to help you actually start that project — with support, confidence, and community.

Each session includes guided help, shared learning moments, and individualized coaching so you can progress at your own pace while still enjoying the social, motivating Sewcial vibe that makes the studio feel like a creative home.

Bring your own pattern and materials — or purchase one of our beginner-friendly options in the studio!

How It Works

  • Prep: Students will have taken Stitch Lab: Sewing With Patterns (or have equivalent prior experience with patterns) and will have the information to have purchased their patterns, fabrics, and cut out their required pattern pieces prior to the first class.

  • Session 1: Cutting & Fit Adjustments (Try Sewing: Reading Patterns next steps)
Learn to position pattern pieces on fabric, mark notches and darts, and make simple sizing adjustments.
✂️ Goal: Leave with your fabric cut and ready to sew.

  • Session 2: Construction & Confidence
Sew your project with guidance on seam techniques, pressing, and troubleshooting.
✂️ Goal: Build momentum and refine your sewing accuracy.

  • Session 3: Construction
    Continue working on your projects.

  • Session 4: Construction and Finishings - Continue working on your projects, fine tuning challenging segments in the pattern. Or for those who are near finish, add closures, hems, and polish your final piece. Wrap up with a mini “Studio Walk” to celebrate everyone’s makes!
✂️ Goal*: Complete (or nearly complete) your first self-guided pattern project!

Who It’s For

  • Sewists who’ve bought a pattern but never got started

  • Anyone craving accountability, skill-building, and community while sewing
