Animal Lovers Sewing Camp (New projects for our returning campers)
This is the sweetest camp for the biggest of hearts… our little animal lovers! Campers will learn how to sew, make friends, and even make a difference for animals in need. Get ready for a week full of creativity, compassion, and Squishmallow-inspired cuteness!
Camp Projects Include (subject to change:
Animal-Themed Tote Bags: Campers will choose their favorite animal design to sew their very own adorable, functional tote bag to carry treasures and showcase their love for creatures great and small.
Plushie Habitat: Inspired by Squishmallows, campers will sew soft, cuddly critters (a fan favorite)
Explorer Crossbody/ Fanny Packs: Perfect for outdoor adventures or everyday use, campers will design and sew colorful fanny packs to keep their essentials close while on the go.
Comfort Blankets for Shelter Animals: A heartfelt project where campers create soft, comforting blankets for pets awaiting surgery or adoption at the SSPCA.
Donor Video Project: Campers will film and edit a fun, heartwarming video to share with the SSPCA to inspire adoptions and donations, learning the power of storytelling along the way.
Fun Fridays: Sewing, allergy free treats, and a kid-appropriate, camp themed movie
SPECIAL SURPRISES:
Each year we partner with the SSPCA to choose an animal that has a decreased chance of adoption, and sponsor their adoption fees to promote finding their furever home. Last year, thanks to special donors, we sponsored four animals with the kids over the phone with the SSPCA donor team. On the final day, we will celebrate with animal themed treats (i.e. Circus Animals and Animal Crackers)
This camp is a perfect mix of creative projects and meaningful contributions to the animal community. Your little animal lover will leave with new sewing skills, a sense of purpose, and plenty of cuddly creations!
Sponsor A Pet Event
In conjuction with the Sacramento SPCA, Sewcial Animal Week Sewing Students will be involved in choosing and sponsoring one (or more) animal/s at the SSPCA who may especially be at risk of not finding a furever home or funding their health needs, and will be able to track their adoption story. A note will be added to each sponsored animal that shares that the animal/s adoption fees have been covered by this program. Students can also write notes to the prospective families of other animals encouraging and/or congratulating them on pet adoption regardless of their adoptability.
We will also have fun sew challenges, prizes, music, and making new friends! On Fridays at camp we have a tasty allergen free treat (donuts, cupcakes, etc) to celebrate our success.
